Job Description

Summary: 

Under the general supervision of the Office Manager this position is responsible for efficiently cleaning and completing janitorial and light building maintenance activities within the Mahaska County Highway Department Facilities.

Job Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned):

-sweeping tile floors, vacuuming carpeted areas, mopping tile floors, cleaning bathrooms & break rooms, dusting, washing windows, emptying trash, setting up conference rooms for meetings, cleaning carpets, outside cleanup in the immediate vicinity of the buildings.

Qualifications:

Education and/or experience:

Completion of High School, or G.E.D. equivalent preferred.  Janitorial experience helpful.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and correctly interpret instructions from a variety of sources.  Ability to effectively write requests of needs to properly perform duties.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to apply safety practices and procedures to all situations.  Ability to effectively work with the public and coworkers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, see, and use hands and legs to perform duties.  The employee is subject to repetitive motion activities, such as mopping, sweeping, vacuuming.  The employee is periodically required to perform functions requiring the ability to exert or lift 50 pounds.  The employee is periodically required to be available during adverse weather conditions and nonstandard hours.

Job Hours

8-12 Hours Weekly.  Flexible hours. Hourly rate negotiable based on experience.
