Job Description
Full-time position, to act as an advisor to the Mahaska County Conservation Board; be responsible to carry out board policy; be spokesman for the board; manage 21 county areas (1722 acres) and the Environmental Learning Center built in 2020; supervise employees (staff of 5); and enforce rules and regulations to accordance of the laws of Iowa. Tentative start date of January 2023.
Salary range of $62,000.00 to $68,000.00 with standard county benefits including healthcare, IPERS, and uniform allowance.
Job Requirements
A graduate of a four-year college or university majoring in environmental sciences; biology; natural sciences; outdoor recreation; or a related field. Responsible for developing, directing, and evaluating all facets of the Mahaska County Conservation Board’s programs and objectives. Applicant should be familiar with land acquisition and development; operation and maintenance of parks; recreation areas; and natural resources. Be able to promote and support environmental programs that average more than 10,000 participants annually. Skills and experience needed but not limited to administration; personnel management; developing and operating within a budget; developing and implementing goals; grant writing; and public relations. Construction experience and good communication skills are important. Applicant should possess the following certifications or be able to obtain them within 12 months of hire date: ILEA Peace Officer; S130-190 and S290 National Wildfire Coordinating Group; Commercial Driver’s license; and Category 6 Commercial Pesticide Applicator license. Must be able to lift, push, or pull 75 lbs. Must have three or more years of experience in the natural resource field. Mahaska County Conservation is an equal opportunity employer.

Job Hours
Generally, 40 hours per week during a seven (7) day period. May be required to work additional hours on weekends or during the week.
